I havent really thought about it. I dont always think like that but if I am reading a book and I hear a song everytime after that when I hear it again it reminds of the book and scenes from the book will play in my head. lLike Fergi Big girls dont cry reminds me of the ending HWTTG when it is the last time that Cat sees Bones.

I completely agree with Big Girls Don't Cry by Fergie for a good song to go with the end of HTTG. I think it fits perfectly.

It so happens I have songs for my books :).

But remember, these are songs that remind ME of the books/certain scenes, but won't necessarily fit anyone else. Every reader brings their own taste and perceptions, so one size (or song) won't fit all.

If you're curious, though...this is for HALWAY TO THE GRAVE (and yes, some of them date me, lol):

Don't Fear the Reaper, by Blue Oyster Cult
In The Air Tonight, the remake by Nonpoint
Name of the Game, by Crystal Method
The Space Between, by The Dave Matthews Band
Fear, by Sarah McLachlan
Fix You, by Coldplay
Dragula, by Rob Zombie
Hero of the Day, by Metallica, the S&M version with the orchestra (this song is the song that best describes Halfway to the Grave for me. Why? Because it starts out slower, almost poignant, and then builds to a defiant roar. Plus, to me, the lyrics are compatible for Cat's view of her world and circumstances at that time. Every time I hear this song, I think of HTTG)

ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE. If I had a playlist for this, I can't find it, but there is one song that always sticks out to me for this book.

Stand Inside Your Love, by Smashing Pumpkins. Again, it starts out a slower, but builds until everything is bashing together. It's not a laid-back love song, so I think it fits well with the tone of the book. The lyrics are also very compatible for Bones's mindset during the novel.

Oh, and the song *I* imagined during that dance scene in OFITG with Cat and Bones is:

Love Song , the remake by 311

For AT GRAVE'S END, there are several songs I've been listening to as I finish revisions, but one song that's stuck with me ever since I began writing it is:

Now We Are Free, by Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard (in case you're saying, "Huh?", it's the song that played at the end of the movie GLADIATOR). To me, it's perfect for the final climatic scene of the book. I've listened to it over and over while writing AT GRAVE'S END.

Ok, so I went and found all the songs I didn't know from the list. I loved most of them(others were just not my type). I can see how they fit the book, and several how they fit one part.

I love how several Authors are puting play list to thier books. As a (former) music major I have always found that music will help me write. My fights, arguments, dancing or the sex flow better when I can hear the music they are making in the words. (ok that sounds corny, oh well) It not that the song inspiered the parts, just it makes them flow better, either in my head or on paper (if you could hear my music and read the words it might make you understand too).

Thanks for the list!

Music fitting the scene

Postby DelilahK » 15 Jun 2008, 07:49

Last night I read the Cat getting shot at and learning that Bones can fly scene for the third time... then later had the earphones on and was listening to the Iron Man soundtrack... I could really visualize that scene like a movie.

So anyone else have these music/scene connections?

Now We Are Free? OOH Awesome! I LOVE the Gladiator soundtrack... you do know that I'm going to be playing that on repeat while reading the book, don't you?

See, that makes me nervous. That bit of Gladiator incidental music involves a DYING Maximus reuniting with his DEAD wife.
