I have always had a fascination with vampires since I was a teenager and would run home from school to watch Dark Shadows! I was in love with Barnabas Collins! And this obsession with vampires has never waned. Except now I'm in love with Bones and Bill - oh, and all of the Brothers!

I'm a teen now, and I am certain my love for vampires is going to stay. (:

Yes, there has been a huge surge of them in the literary world over the past few years, but in my opinion, I've seen more people become interested and entranced in stories about them, vs. becoming ho hum or bored with them.

Most of the people I know who are into reading about Vamps have only recently become intrigued with them and are now going out to find more of what they missed over the years that they never read before.

I agree, I'm a perfect example. I had many friends who encouraged me to read Anne Rice in the 80s, I was totally not interested. A few weeks ago, I stumbled across her FB page, and now really enjoy what she has to say there and links she offers. Interesting, smart lady, told her I hadn't read anything she's written, but I intended to. Bought my first paperback of hers the other day, it's waiting in my TBR pile.

Question is: did vampires (books, stories, etc.) change or did I? Probably a little of both. HBO's TB led me to CHarris who led me to Jeaniene, Ward and others. I'm so totally hooked. If I like Angel, I'll read everthing else Rice has written, I find an author I like and read everything!

Enjoy Happy! Though, friends who were big Anne Rice fans tell me she changed genres a few years back. But, her vamp collection still rocks ;)

What other authors wrote about vampires before the 1990's? All I have on my radar screen are Anne Rice and Bram Stoker. There have been plenty of movie variations, but I draw a blank at successful book series.
