When I read Devil to Pay by Jeaniene and when Cat and Bones appeared I was like "Noooo" Not because they came. It was because some part of me wanted to jump in that story and just wanna fight.
Yeah, Poor cat ((I have no feelings for Cat but the other characters; yes. :p)) But Wow! The Story was awesome; but I was also surprised when Elise was part of Mencheres's Group.

Sleep, priestess lie in peace
If the priestess wakes from her dream
Perform the rite of stakes
Her limbs pinned tight
Lest the door open wide and suffering unleashed on all

I bought my copy of Four Dukes today and boy, when she says Mencheres, Bones, and Cat are side characters she means exactly that!! It's an interesting little story about another vampire that Mencheres sired and it does take place after AGE because mention is made of some of the things that happened in it. I like Blake and Elise very much and hope we can hear more about them in future stories.

I liked them too. Elise was fantastic, I really felt for her.

But, this story also had another BIG point. It introduced us to demons and possesion.

I read "Devil to Pay" last night and I have to say it was one of my favorite of JF's short-stories. Even though our fav. characters play minor roles, I was completely hooked into the story. I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out how they were going to deal with the demon. I really empathized with the main characters (Blake and Elise) and would love to see more from them in future works. Thanks Jeaniene! :)

I recently read Four Dukes and a Devil. I have to say I was suprised. I am not a big fan of short stories because I like the detail that helps build the story and allows you to really get to know the characters. But anyway I really liked this one. Blake and Elise are characters great. Too bad i got it from the library so I now will have to check it out again to re-read it or just buy it. I wonder do you think that Blake and Elise to make cameo apperances in future books? Thant would be great.

I am really glad I read Devil to Pay before FDOC. I still would have followed everything in FDOC allright, but DtP was a great introduction to demons.
I hope Blake makes a cameo in future books, he was a stand-up guy.

I also am normally not a fan of short stories. I want my stories to go on and on and....you get the idea.

Devil to Pay was an exception for me. I was able to feel a rapport with Elise almost from the beginning. Yes, Cat and Bones were in for just a second, but I really appreciated seeing WM from a perspective other than Cat's. It was a bit strange to hear Elise call him father however. I know WM's line numbers in the thousands, maybe tens of thousands, it will be interesting to see if we meet others who have a different view from Cat.
Mencheres' chest, arms, and stomach were corded with an intricate pattern of muscles...his legs were as deliciously sculpted as the rest of him.

Devil to Pay is an excellent story -very believable. I loved Elise and Blake. I shed more than a few tears for them. If a writer doesn't evoke strong emotion (joy, sorrow, fear, etc.) in me when I am reading, I don't feel like I have received my momey's worth of entertainment. Devil to Pay was well worth my money.

Furthermore, Mencheres' compassion as a sire was refreshing to see in him since we don't get a lot of him as a fleshed out character in the Cat and Bones books. Devil to Pay made me want Mencheres' book even more. Why isn't it July already? :D ;) :D

Finally, I loved Cat and Bones as side characters. Their black Volvo, Bones protecting Cat, Cat flipantly not wanting to be protected by Bones, and the demon taunts really gave me more Cat and Bones time while waiting out Book #5 - February 2010. Why isn't it February already? :D ;) :D

I would recommend this book for any fan or new reader of Jeaniene's novels and stories. Again, excellent work.
"I love you, Kitten.
Don't try to get out of this. We'll see if you love me when I pay you back.
Even then I will love you, Bones called out as I stomped away. Even then." OFITG, Chapter 27.

I really enjoyed reading this story of Bones.
"Kitten, you need to make a decision. Either we stay here and behave or we leave now and I promise you” his voice dipped lower and the words fell against my lips “if we leave, I won’t behave." ~ Jeaniene Frost

"Do you think I'm pretty?' I heard myself ask.
Something I couldn't name flashed across his face.
"No.I don't think you're pretty. I think you're the most beautiful girl I've ever seen"
