Denise's eyes seem greener... like a vampires...

Hi all,

I feel sure that I cannot been the only one to have noticed this but search as I may I haven't been able to find this topic anywhere else, has anyone else been pondering why there seems to be such an emphasis in FDOC on Denise's eyes appearing greener when she is angry... like a vampires...?! I am rereading it and I am sure I am not imagining things though stupidly I didn't write down the pages that put the questions in my head and so can't post any quotes but definitely in the first half it mentions this twice and in quick succession (the whole greener eyes thing that is). It can't be to do with being branded because Raum's eyes were red. Could it to be that she is in someway part vamp?! Could she be related to the other half breed? Could Cat have had kids if she hadn't turned? These are the thoughts which have been driving me crazy and the reason I have decided to join is that I need people to talk to about this! I didn't post it on questions for Jeaniene because of the whole EA spoiler thing, I'm pretty sure my wild speculation is very spoilerish but if not feel free to move this. Anyway I'm new here (in that I have finally stopped lurking and registered) but have been a fan for a while and have just introduced myself over on Freshly Buried, please help me with this, is it a figment of my overactive imagination or do you see where I am coming from?

There is a topic somewhere about Cat's pregnancy, and the answer was no. I don't remember where though, but I think you could find it eventually.

i admit the green eyes made me bug first, but I had forgotten eventually... Maybe it was just Spade's subconscious which made it see her this way, since he wanted to make her a vamp?
Wait for other answers, I think they'll provide you a way better response.

First on Cat's pregnancy, before she was changed, she had a period like any human female. This should signal and I think it did, that she was able to become pregnant. The whole cycle ovulation thing and all that. Of course, that is only half the equation. The male component was missing. Except for the first few days after being changed, reproduction is not possible. Max of course showed us that. Afterwards the sperm wasn't there. So, as Cat was only having sex with Bones, she couldn't get pregnant while still fertile.

On Denise's eyes, I will have to reread how that is worded, but, I would guess if her eyes really did change, it would have to do with the demon brands. Yes Raum's eyes were red, but, I don't believe Jeaniene has given us enough info yet to know whether other changes are possible. Could it have been Spade's imagination? Possibly his desire for her to be a vampire? Not sure. Definitely need a reread!

We like to explore every little crumb Jeaniene throws to us! I do this too.

When I first started posting I had some reservations about posting questions but everyone is REALLY cool here. And there are great discussions from questions just like yours!! The best thing I have learned it that there is usually someone who had the same thoughts/questions!!

Yay! I'm glad it's not just me, I guess it could have been Spade's imagination, I just thought it would be really cool if Denise was 1/8 vampire or something, like her grandma was a half breed maybe! Sigh, love the books so much, have already finished rereading FDOC, hate that it has to end! Can't wait for EKOD, I am sure it will be just as epic, I wasn't sure I wanted to read a Spade and Denise book but it was totally awesome so even though I have never really hankered after Mencheres I am sure after EKOD that will change...

I just re-read FDOC this weekend and Spade did mention, more than once, about Denise's eyes appearing greener and did compare to a vampires. I questioned that too, but agree possibly that it could either be from the demon brands or Spade's wishful thinking at the time.

Well, it is actually possible for peoples eyes to differ in appearence. I myself have a hard time telling what color my eyes are - most of the time they're kind of golden-brown but sometimes they're dark green (and I don't think I have any vampire in me ). I know other people with this trait as well

I don't think it has anything to do with my mood though, I think it has something to do with how the light hits the iris, so my theory on this was, that when Denise gets angry she narrowes her eyes or something, then the light will hit the iris differntly, and thus her eyes will appear greener

This actually is a very good theory! Green is the dominant color in the greenish brown that makes hazel eyes. If the brands caused her eye color to intensify in response to her anger that would make them appear greener. Does that make any sense to anyone but me?

That makes excellent sense to me! We already know that the brands makes Denises body react when she is angry (her temperature rises) - so it could also interfere with the eye color by intensifying the green as you say Hadn't thought about it that way, but I think you've got an excellent point

My eyes are basically grey with green and blue highlights. However, they change with my emotions. Sometimes they are more blue and other times they are more green. Maybe that is what is happening to Denise's eyes and, because of the brands, the color change is more noticeable.
