I thought it was interesting that Spade found out about her miscarriage, but he and Denise never discussed it themselves. Spade tells her how he became a vampire and what happened to Gisella, but her miscarriage doesn't come up again (I don't think) Although I don't see them having children in the future I did wonder what it's purpose was. Maybe it served as another layer of guilt for Denise to overcome??

Yeah, I think it was another load of guilt as Denise lost the baby due to the stress of that night and the PTSD and her body couldn't cope. Factor in that it's a devastating thing for any woman to cope with, as well as the fact it was the last link to her dead husband...
A common theme for women who have miscarriages is that they're a failiure as a woman/mother and that their body has betrayed them. Denise already felt like a failiure as a wife because she wasn't tehre when Randy was murdered and then she lost the baby... Poor Denise. :?

Jeaniene, is that right though? I don't want to be giving my theories and then you pop in and say, "Erm, no. Stop saying the wrong things." lol.

I think you're right Bee. It was mentioned to show how much Denise had to overcome before Spade came back into her life. It also might help to explain some of her emotional responses to things if you read between the lines in a few scenes. Like when Spade killed the rapist in DFAEG is wasn't just that killing that she was responding to but underneath the loss of life for her baby as well was there.
I never argue with anyone with as many sharp teeth as you've got.

Thanks Wild. I thought that was it, but wasn't 100%. :D

Hallo, Yeah no children. I would like to keep it with all the action and steamy sex lines instead. It would take away what these books focus on, which is action, drama, passion and bad ass characters. Personally I think it would also soften up all the characters too much, and create too much what ifs. Such as kidnapping children and who knows of all the other horrible things out there that we already know that can be done to little one's in the hands of bad people. Jeaniene's focus is on making these books exciting and keeping the reader intrigued by fantasty and mystical things not by other negative things happening in the real world. ;)

I'm another one that feels children would serve no good purpose for the books. Being a mom, I would want my child with me forever, if I had to live forever, so we would eventually be talking about changing a child over at some point in their lives. Way too much drama. The characters would lose focus.

Were you raiding my medicine cabinet GB?

I'm not sure where (it may have been in one of her bios) but I'm pretty sure I read that Jeaniene is very uncomfortable with children, so I can't imagine her trying to write about one. I would think it'd be hard to make a believable character when you can't really relate to it. Although I think she did a good job with the kids at Chuck E. Cheese.. 8-) Poor, emotionally scarred children.

All the while having the demon Brands. Does this mean that in the future she and Spade could possibly have children? Of course Spade could not be the biological father, but Denise could still have a child with Spade raising it with her. Would the demon essence pass through genetically?

I would think so, she should just adopt, ya know when things are not so chaotic.
