Spoiler: show
As painful as it is, there is a ton of backstory and you will find yourself screaming at the characters, crying, laughing, and learning with them. I was an emotional basketcase in real life living the scenes along with the characters...maybe even too much so. My poor husband, may he rest in peace, took the brunt of it. It was like 24x7 PMS. Anyway, you will miss a lot if you skip and the drama and emotion will never go away. If you think this one is emotion wait till you get to a Breath of Snow and Ashes! Just remember (and this shouldn't be a spoiler if you think about it) that overall this series is one based upon the love of Jamie and Claire so know that in order for that to happen they will meet again....actually if you pay attention to Outlander and dates, etc you will have picked up on how certain dates didn't make sense with the future glimpses and the past and you may have figured out some things...and that is the point...there is so mych foreshadowing in her books and reoccurring themes or things that happen (or objects or people) and come back in later books that you will miss some of the genious if you skip anything.

grrr - ok lassies, I hear you. I must endure the torture to reach the reward. I'm confident Jamie is worth it...but is it too scandalous to confess a seething and intense dislike for Miss Claire Beauchamp? She makes me mutter very unladylike words. If not for Jamie and the other people (oh, like Jenny, Ian, Colum, Dougal, Murtagh, etc, etc) who make me smile, laugh, and shake my head, I'd have a bonfire on the front lawn and toss Miss Beauchamp in - in effigy of course, I don't want to incur Jamie's wrath. ;)

oh, and wont? That music is the salve for my soul when I start channeling the scary side of a certain Egyptian... :P

:D Well, it was a tough battle, but I finished Dragonfly in Amber and then devoured Voyager! I'm DOA, but I just finished my first meal/anything since picking up Drums of Autumn. I could not frigging move from my chair. I need a physical therapist and some hydration stat. These books should come with a warning label... I saw FB posts from fans about how they walk out on their porches half naked yet unaware of it, how they can't shower, how their families are neglected, and I thought, "pssht, whatever." Well, butter my biscuits, aye, 'cause these chicks weren't whistlin' Dixie. Now I must go sleeep/or possibly read more...

I can't decide if these books are torture or an exquisite pleasure. {decided - exquisite torture} They are well worth the read - thanks for the encouragement to keep going when the material got rough! {thou ladies are a bad influence forbye} I'm going to take a breath and tackle Drums of Autumn. I'm probably going to cry buckets when Jamie finally meets Bree... {buckets through the whole dang thing punctuated by mad laughter - I'm officially a weird woman}

ua -
Spoiler: show
regarding the female character you thought I would hate more...was it Mistress Duncan and her plantation of blood and zombies? I was sickened and outraged at her treatment of Ian, the other Scottish lads, the slaves, and, oh, just about everybody. When that evil witch revealed that she was going to try to find Bree, I was ready to chop her head off myself! Uhhh, yeah, it's now a tie between Ol' Green Eyes and that [insert the foulest epithet you can dare imagine] Laoghaire. :evil:

Oh Jordan, I loved reading your post!! I love it when someone reads these books for the first time and knows what we mean when we say we live and breathe these characters. This is hands down the best series of books I have ever read. Ever.

Oh, and Jamie meeting Bree for the first time? *sniff* It's good, but I loved it when he first saw her pictures!

Keep us posted as to your progress. You can gush and spill all you want here!

Bree and Jamie's meeting has quite a funny twist. That's all I'm saying. You should enjoy.

leghair=evil incarnate

Gellis=crazy biotch

glad you are enjoying

OK, so my French cousins were in NYC so my other cousin took us all the Fraunces Tavern where supposedly George Washington dismissed the troops. It was pretty awesome to be there knowing that especially since I never knew about that. Unfortunately that bar had a bombing in the 1970s were many people were killed by a terrorist group. Anyway, thought I'd share that tidbit since book 8 has George Washington and the American Revolution in it and that may come up.

Good news, Outlander fans. Apparently, there is going to be a TV series based on the books.

Oh wow, this could be great! :D

I hope HBO picks up the series, they have done such an awesome job with Game of Thrones, and Diana Gabaldon's books are about as lengthy as George R R Martin's. Casting is going to kill me, I know it! I don't think there is a man alive who could portray Jamie Fraser. He's a hero of epic proportions. (and Chris Hemsworth doesn't do it for me...) Maybe Alexander Skarsgard?? He maybe could do it - I enjoy him as Eric Northman on TrueBlood. Who do you ladies imagine?
