Okay, let me preface this by saying I'm not trying to start anything here, just throwing out my 2-cent opinion...

Marie "gave" Cat this power to use it to find Apollyon to take care of Marie's problems for her, and set Marie up as the head of the ghoul nation. It was very self-motivated. I see Marie as being too ruthless to just give up a power, especially one that would balance the power between vamps and ghouls. She is a ghoul and wouldn't give up an advantage to just even things up. She gave it to Cat because it furthered her means, although I do think she has a soft spot for Cat, but not one that would override her own ambitions. Obviously, Marie is very much an "end justifies the means" sort of person. I'm sure she's waiting to see if Cat loses the ability over time. Cat did admit to her that was what happened, so Marie may have felt it was worth the risk.

I don't know why Cat would continue to have a power she absorbed from a ghoul any more than power she got from vamps. Perhaps the biggest lesson here is learning to control and use it, and I think some of that came from Cat's nature. She's always been tuned into the ghosts more than the other vampires that tend to just ignore them.

I think book 6 could get very interesting!

Trader,
I tend to agree w/you re: Marie's intentions and reasoning behind "sharing" her power with Cat. Both times we've seen Marie, she has helped C&B, but not out of selflessness or because she truly supports C&B. She has quietly supported what they were doing b/c it gave HER (Marie) an advantage and furthered her end without her getting directly involved. Remember, she sent those things to free Gregor, likely knowing someway somehow it'd be the only way she'd ever be free of him. So, she "helped" C&B on that front. Then, in order to "rule" the ghouls, she couldn't directly support C&B, so again she was sneaky and behind the scenes. I believe she'll continue to help them if and how she can as long as their end goals remain the same and it in some way benefits Marie. What scares me is the thought of what could/would happen when the end goal is not the same for Marie as it is for C&B.

Only time will tell if Cat will keep this power. It could happen since Marie is the magic and it's not simply in her blood.

trader, you have some good points there! To further my thinking, if Cat does keep this power Marie isn't going to be too happy about it. I was thinking that at the time Marie "gave" the power to Cat she would have been under the assumption that the power would only be temporary as the others had been. And I'm not thinking that maybe the power would stay because Marie is a ghoul but simply because of her status as a Mambo, which increased when Marie was made into a ghoul. But Marie's power came from before she was turned, not after, if I remember correctly.
I never argue with anyone with as many sharp teeth as you've got.

good points Deliliah, Kyatty and wildchild regarding her keeping this power. That could make things very interesting in the upcoming book! Thanks !

Yep, good points, all. My question is, when Fabian was having his showdown talk with Vlad, and put his arm in Vlad's chest, was he showing Vlad, the kind of power he was talking about?

I've thought about this as well. It would make an interesting turn of events. I have a little doubt to this though, and here is why. I just can't see Marie making Cat permanently that strong because that would give Cat that much more power to defeat Marie if the need were to arise, it gives them a little bit of an equal playing field. However, I know Marie has to have tons of tricks up her sleeves and Cat wouldn't be ready for that battle any time soon. But then again, I could see Marie doing it for her own benefit. But Cat keeping them, something I could definitely see happening.

Sorry, got way :text-offtopic: But to get back to the original post, I can't say how much I love Fabian. Even in the beginning when we were first introduced to him I just loved him. I can't imagine what it would be like to want nothing more than to feel someone hug you or hold your hand, and Cat trying to offer that makes for an unbreakable bond and undying loyalty.

wildchild1954 wrote:I'm thinking you might be right Delilah. Marie's powers aren't something she got from becoming a ghoul - she already had them!! So maybe Cat will keep these powers instead of them fading. And Marie doing it to keep balance between the two races would be nice thing.
