Don't feel lonesome flashpointe! I too have been known to give verbal advice to characters in a book!! Over the 26 ½ years that we've been together my husband has learned to just ignore me when I have a book (or my Pandigital) in my hands. My kids learned it before they were 5!

How did you´re kids learn that? My son has a sixt sense to interrupt always at the most interresing parts. I could use a few advices.

My sons have that same sense. James asked me in the middle of labor with his sister if I could open his fruit roll-up. 8 other adults in the room at the time, and he singled me out. I kind of listen with a sub-level of hearing. If it's important I will put the book down. If it is something that they can do for themselves or have a sibling help <when they were smaller> I kinda mutter for them to ask whoever else is in the house. Right now my youngest is 16 and can fend for herself. If she interrupts I know it has to be serious. <my oldest is going to be 23 and he's married and his wife's worry lol>

On a side note, it's really great for kids, especially smaller ones to see someone reading because they want to read. It makes it easier to make them enjoyment readers. Most kids today read because they have to. My kids all read because they want to. In the mall we never went and spent tons at the toystore, it was the book store.

Kyra was funny when that teaser bit was made available. She was actually late for a date. Her boyfriend was standing in the living room for a bit while she read it. It was too funny.

On a side note, where's the smiley reading a book?? There ought to be one of those.

Silly boys, Fire Trucks are for girls...

You know you've read too many vampire books when you get a cut and the first thing you do is glance around the room....

curses <not really> to my sister for having me a nephew who interrupts my reading...

I don't know how well my trick would work for older kids but from the day mine were born I read whatever I was reading out loud to them while I was holding them! My daughter isn't much of a reader but her brother is. I accidentally taught him how to read by doing that. I read newspapers, books, magazines, anything out loud to them and when they were old enough to sit I followed the words with my finger and then they followed with theirs. Rusty (my son) could read Louis L'Amour books when he started kindergarten. His teacher was very impressed!!

But anyway, they learned young that if it wasn't important to go ask Dad or Grandpa or Grandma, whoever else was available. If it was important they could interrupt me but otherwise - no.

I have the same problem, my youngest daughter always interrupts when I'm reading or watching television. I half-listen also, if it can wait, I give a its not an emergency don't bother me look, and then she will come back with a piece of paper with her question on it, to be answered at my stopping point. I did the same as you wildchild, I also read aloud to my daughters from birth to beyond, and my oldest loved hearing me read. My youngest daughter from the start, would either knock the book out of my hands or rip the page, whichever one would get the result she wanted from me - to shut up. To this day my older daughter still likes to read, but my hormonal-challenged younger daughter will only read for school and mocks when I laugh or say something aloud due to reading. She tells me that she will help me with my issues and obsessions with “strange” books, once she receives her psychology degree. So I say daily prayers for the hormones to settle down ASAP.

Both of mine loved having me read to them, it's just that my daughter stopped reading and my son didn't. Krista is reading again now though and she's into Twilight, Christine Feehan, that kind of thing!! Her daughters are also reading and they've read the Twilight series and several other YA books now.

It's lovely when a love of books gets passed down in families!! I got it from my dad, gave it to my kids, and now they seem to be giving it to theirs.

OMG! Just can't wait til the release!!! I've already read the preview in 'Bite Before Christmas' and just can't get enough of it! Vlad's my all time favourite! Think I read Leila's description of him ten times or more Image  ...
And the title is just perfect!
But I think I'll be a bit jealous of Leila...ok...not just a bit  ...
