The Letter in the Box...

Jeaniene please tell us what was in that letter?!? I keep thinking that maybe Bones left cat some really meaningful words or something but I have to know. What does everyone think was in that letter?

Can't tell you what was in the letter. I'm not trying to be coy, but it's not written anywhere on my hard drive. I have a good idea of what Bones would have written to Cat (as I'm sure many readers do, too), but I didn't compose the letter while writing At Grave's End.

Why? ***warning: sissy alert*** when I tried to write out what Bones had said in the letter, I started to bawl. Really, it was embarrassing. So since Cat couldn't take hearing it, and I couldn't take writing it, its exact contents remain a mystery.

That's good enough for me.

As long as it wasn't anything BAD.

Maybe someday Cat will find the letter? Or do they ever go back to that house to retrieve the box?
Because it would be an awful shame to not have such a sweet sentiment. As sad as it was.
You're so sweet, Jeanine. :D

Um, yeah.
Scary.
Can I have Vlad now?

Question about the letter, just to stay on topic.
Did you intend on writing it, initially? Do you ever?

(2 questions, I guess.)

I was wondering what happened to that box. It wasn't mentioned after she fell asleep. Did Bones find it? Did they leave it at that house?

I'm kind of glad Cat didn't read the letter for several reasons.

1. It was a more powerful scene that she couldn't read it. Kind of a "if she read it, Bones would really be gone".

2. The mystery of the content really ramps up the anticipation. Because we know that the letter said all the things he'd never said to her.

As for the letter itself... I love the fact that Bones took the time to write a last goodbye to Cat. It's very in keeping with traditions of the past.

While I'd love to know the contents... not knowing is even better.

Ummm.... It was one thing that ticked me littlebit.
I think it would have been more powerful if she had read it.

"Did you intend on writing it, initially?"

Yes. But when I got to the part where Cat read "My Beloved Wife" on the envelope and she broke down, I knew it wouldn't work to write it out.

"Do you ever?"

Do I intend to write it now, do you mean? If so, the answer is no. It was either going to be revealed in the scene, which ended up not happening, or the letter stays sealed. Even I don't know everything that's in it ;).

"I was wondering what happened to that box. It wasn't mentioned after she fell asleep. Did Bones find it? Did they leave it at that house?"

Bones found it and gave it back to Mencheres. Mencheres brought it with him when they left the house after the battle.

Oooo, thanks for letting us know. That wasn't in the book, was it? Did I miss it? Am I forgetting something?
Awww... I'm getting sniffly just thinking about it again.
