Vampire politics

I know there is a topic in "Questions" and I wanted to send this posting there first, but I´m not sure how to write without spoiling anything for someone. Here I can just write...

So: When Cat was with Gregor it was obvious that she was influenced by him to marry him, he wanted to rape her - in a way - and later he promised her she will get punished after her return. Furthermore he punished her through her dreams.

Does anyone care about what Masters are doing to the members of their line or their wifes/husbands or are they allowed to do everything they want?

Another example is Justina when she was turned into a vampire. Was Cannelle allowed to treat her that way? Cannelle kicked her at a gathering under an all-truce - isn´t that against the laws?

When I read Cat memories and later her dreams I became very angry. Why isn´t anyone doing something against this unrighteousness?

Have a good night ;)

Vampires operate under a feudal type system. From what I understand a master of a line can pretty much do whatever they want to those in their line.

When Gregor kidnapped Cat when she was a teenager - she wasn't a member of anyone else's line and so had no protection. Those who are Masterless have no recourse. When Gregor bit her, he had the right to claim her as a member of his line.

When Justina was turned into a vampire, she was a member of Gregor's line. Cannaelle was probably also considered a member of Gregor's line. My assumption is that during an all truce event, a vampire cannot attack a member of another vampire's line. Doing stuff to people of your own line is fine though.

It's probably frowned on to treat members of your own line badly but I wouldn't think there is any law against it. It seems that most vampire laws (the laws that we are aware of) have to do with the interaction between different lines - wars, theft of members, protection. Stuff like that.

Hi Greek Bee!

Yes, I agree. I can imagine to belong to Bones would be a assurance to live safe, as long as he don´t demand any assistance in a battle - that could be very fast very dangerous.

But imagine belonging to Gregor oder Ian... No, thanks.

Greetings,

I have a doubt. If a vampire cannot attack a member of another vampire's line, why Bone's never have been punished by killing others vampires when he was a hitman?

I don't remember in which book it is mentioned, but I think there's something about no one really knowing who had done it when a vamp was assassinated. And I guess most vamp wanted dead must be powerful, so masters of their own lines-----> no master revenge

And maybe also that when a vamp does something who could endanger the species or not respecting the laws might have contracts on their heads. On HTTG, Bones says he started to chase Hennessey only by tracking members who had contracts on their heads, so I guess there's a sort of admittance of this kind of things.

I think I might have got lost somewhere in my thoughts, but I hope I didn't messed it all,

Hi Taco,
You are right in that in HTTG, Bones only went after the vamps who had contracts on their heads. According to vamp law, (wont correct me if I am wrong here!) I don't believe that the vamp who accepts the contract can be held accountable...only the vamp who takes out the contract. In other words, the person who hired Bones would be held accountable IF it could be proven they were responsible. Remember in OFITG when they found the guy who had accepted a contract on Cat? Bones made the guy give him all the account info possible? They wanted to find the source. In AGE, when we find out that Patra is behind Max's attack, we learn from Bones that one recourse is to declare war. Another would be to out and out kill the vamp. Guess that is why they are so secretive and careful about covering their tracks.

By the way, whenever I see your name I get hungry. Not good for my diet! :-)

Good refresher. That is how I understood it as well. Helps to refresh the mind from time to time.
