Night Huntress, Book 4
Release Date: July 28, 2009
Story takes place several months after the events in AGE. Late summer/early fall.
Her deadly dreams leave her in grave danger…
Since half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her undead lover Bones met six years ago, they’ve fought against the rogue undead, battled a vengeful Master vampire, and pledged their devotion with a blood bond. Now it’s time for a vacation. But their hopes for a perfect Paris holiday are dashed when Cat awakes one night in terror. She’s having visions of a vampire named Gregor who’s more powerful than Bones and has ties to her past that even Cat herself didn’t know about.
Gregor believes Cat is his and he won’t stop until he has her. As the battle begins between the vamp who haunts her nightmares and the one who holds her heart, only Cat can break Gregor’s hold over her. She’ll need all the power she can summon in order to bring down the baddest bloodsucker she’s ever faced . . . even if getting that power will result in an early grave.
Bones had an arm around my waist, locking me next to him. My squirming only ratcheted my dress higher as his hands bunched it up. Then the sudden pierce of his fangs into my neck made me freeze. A low rumble of pleasure came from him.
“Ah, Kitten, you love that almost as much as I do. Sink into me, luv, as I do the same.”
The blood leaving me and spilling into him felt like it was replaced by sweet fire. Bones was right; I loved it when he bit me. My skin felt hot, my heartbeat quickened – and then I was rubbing against him and moaning at the delay of him unzipping his pants.
“Bones,” I managed. “Yes–”
The building hit me in the face so hard I felt my cheek fracture. It must have been hard enough to knock me unconscious, too. Just for a second. And then the gunfire registered.
It came in staccato bursts from above us, on all sides … everywhere but from the building I was mashed against. Bones had me pressed into the brick. His body covered mine and he was draped over me, shuddering while he punched at the wall in front of me, trying to make a door where one didn’t exist.
That’s when I realized why he was shaking. Bones was being strafed with dozens of bullets.

“He’s not your husband, Catherine.”
“Fear.” Spade lowered his voice. “Crispin’s always prided himself on his emotional control, yet he has none with you. He’s never before experienced the fear of losing the person he loves to someone else.”
“Should I just jump right in and say Gregor’s full of shit, or do you want to chat first?” –Cat
“Bones has always been smart,” I [Cat] muttered. “His intelligence was just camouflaged under a mountain of pussy.”

Question for Jeaniene
Q: Before they had bagged blood, how did they care for the thirst of newborn vamps?
A: Before bagged blood, newborn vamps were given people during those first few blood-crazed days, and yes, those people died. If the siring vampire had a strong conscience, he or she would use people who deserved to get killed (criminals, murderers, rapists, child molesters, etc). If the siring vampire didn’t care, innocent people would be used.
Or (and I haven’t had a chance to write this in a scene yet, but I’ve wanted to!) some vampires would use this as a test of courage for a human aspiring to be a vampire. Example: The aspiring human would choose one of three doors to open, knowing that behind two of those doors, no one was there, but one of those doors contained a new, blood-crazed vampire. If the human chose the wrong door, well, certain death awaited. If the human chose one of the other two doors, he/she passed the bravery test and was made into a vampire.
